Summary:

Simpleology is a digital productivity planner that walks you step-by-step towards efficiently organizing your day and staying on task despite life's many distractions. After personally using this system for quite some time, I have seen my own productivity exponentially increase and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to live a more organized life and get more things done in less time.

What Is Simpleology?

Simpleology is the brainchild of Mark Joyner, an internet marketing legend and entrepreneur. When he originally came up with the concept for Simpleology back in 2005, he was selling courses to help people become more productive and manage their finances.

Over time, the courses that he taught evolved into a fully automated system where all a user has to do is follow a few prompts and in a short matter of time, he will know exactly what he needs to get done that day.

Who Is Mark Joyner?

Mark Joyner is the CEO and Founder of Simpleology. Prior to founding this company, he had a long and successful track record as an entrepreneur and internet marketing legend.

His accolades includes:

  • founder of Aesop, the first ebook publishing company.
  • founder of ROIBot, the first online ad-tracking company and first client-side SAAS.
  • founder of SearchHound, the second pay-per-click  search engine, YEARS before Google.
  • Authored over a dozen books, several of which were #1 bestsellers (The Irresistible Offer, Mind Control Marketing, The Great Formula, etc.)

Dream Catcher

The Dreamcatcher is by far, one of my favorite tools from Simpleology and is by far, the most straightforward. It plays a vital function in ensuring that you stay on track while completing your tasks for the day. Whenever you have some random thought or idea that pops into your head while you're working, all you have to do is drop it into the Dream catcher and forget about it until tomorrow.

Simple Mode

Simpleology offers two different modes: Simple Mode and Advanced Mode. In Simple Mode, the main screen is stripped down to the bare essentials: The Dream Catcher, Start My Day, and Daily Targets.

Vision Board

SImpleology has its own "virtual" vision board that you can add audios, videos. pictures, and gifs to help you stay focused on your goals and dreams.

Simpleology Review - Start My Day

If I had to pick one thing I really like about Simpleology, it would be their Start My Day Module. This is where the magic happens and this is how you're able to get a clear idea of the things you need to get done today.

When you first join Simpleology, you start off as a White Belt and you work your way through the ranks up until you receive your Black Belt, meaning that you have completed the requisite training and will be familiar with all aspects of Simpleology.

Here is a brief overview of all of the available modules within Simpleology Start My Day

Morning Brainstorm

The Morning Brainstorm is very similar to the Dream Catcher except you use it at the beginning of your day to clear your mind. It can be big things, small things, random things, etc. No filtering is required here. Your only task is to get everything out of your head and you'll worry about sorting it out later.

Stay Focused

After your "brain dump", we move on to the next section where we review your short-term, mid-term, and long-term focus. The goal of this module is to generate a few ideas of things that you can do that will help move you closer to achieving one (or more) of your major foci.

You'll learn more about this module during your yellow belt training.

Recurring Tasks

Recurring tasks are a special set of tasks that you can choose to delegate or add to your brainstorm list.

Review Your Systems

In this module, you can review the different systems that are currently running and keep track of any upcoming due dates. You can review your systems via calendar or list.

We'll speak more about Simpleology Systems themselves later on in this post.

Business Growth

A. Review Your Goals

In this section, you will be reviewing your business goals. The first part is where you review your "B.H.A.G." or your big, hairy, audacious goals. These goals typically fall between a mid-term and long-term goal and are strategically and emotionally inspiring to you.

Your FIRE Rank is a direct correlation of how often you use the business growth module and helps you stay on track with working on your business.

B. Understand Business Growth

In this section, we do a quick review of the business growth theory formulated by Simpleology. Essentially, there are only three things that contribute to the growth of your business:

  • Frame: How your business is perceived by your target market.
  • Intensity: Any tool that helps get eyeballs to your website (social media marketing, Pay-Per-Click, Solo Ads, etc.)
  • Regeneration: Using the customers you already have to generate more business.
  • Efficiency: Refers to how well your sales funnel is able to convert "eyeballs" into profit.

Any action you take in your business that doesn't fall under one of these four categories is probably a waste of time and is something you could do away with.

C. Brainstorm Improvements

After you familiarized yourself with how to grow your business, it's time to start brainstorming improvements. And the type of improvement will depend on the F.I.R.E. step that you're on for that day.

Observe and Change

"Observe And Change" was inspired by the work of W. E. Demings combined with the most effective methods from the field of Behavioral Pyschology.

Each day, you will be focusing on one of three things: time, money, and energy. For each day, you will go through a series of 4 steps where you will make observations of what's been taking away from your time, money or energy. Afterwards, you will brainstorm ideas how you can remove these "leeches." Then, to end things on a brighter note, you will make observations of what's been contributing to your time, money or energy, and what things you can do to make further increases in the future.

Update Trackers

At this stage, you have the option to update your trackers. Your can track anything as long as you can assign it a numerical value. This includes, but is not limited to, calories eaten, steps taken, calls made, etc.

The Ben Franklin Habits

This module was inspired by a technique by Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of United States. It has been said that every day, Ben would take a notepad and grade himself across 11 different virtues which he believed would allow someone to live to their full potential.

For the sake of convenience, I'll be listing him here:

  • Temperance: Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.
  • Order: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
  • Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve
  • Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.
  • Moderation: Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
  • Industry: Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
  • Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes, or habitation.
  • Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
  • Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
  • Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
  • Justice: Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
  • Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.

You may or may not agree with all 11 of Ben Franklin's virtues. The good news is that you don't have to. You can add your own virtues that you want to live by and each day during Start My Day, you can check with yourself to see if you lived up to your own standards.

Decide

By this point, it's time for us to roll up our sleeves and start making sense out of everything we've brainstormed thus far. There are two distinct modes to the decide step: expert and guided.

For the sake of simplicity, we're going to be focused only on the guided mode. That's the mode that I use and it's the one that I'm the most familiar with.

Moving along, there's only three things you can do at this stage: mark the task as "Do It", "Deliberate", or "Delete."

"Do It" means that it's a task you plan on getting done.

"Deliberate" can either mean you put it on the backburner for a later date, or you can add it to a specific list.

"Delete" means you get rid of the task completely. Vanished from existence.

Decide - Do It Now

In the second part of the decide step, you take the tasks that you marked as "Do It" and drill down one more level. In this step, you have four options that you can choose from: Do It Now, Delegate, Schedule, or Dump It.

"Do It Now" means that you will do this specific task today, come hell or high water.

"Delegate" means that you're going to assign the task to someone else.

"Schedule" means that you're going to put the task on your calendar for a later date.

"Delete" means the task will be deleted from the system.

Schedule (Optional)

In this step, you will proceed with taking the tasks that you marked as schedule and adding it to the calendar of your choice. Most calendar softwares are compatible with Simpleology, but I would highly recommend using Google Calendar if you have an account with them.

Prioritize

Now that we know what tasks we want to get done for the day, it's time to organize them. And Simpleology provides us with three distinct methodologies for our organizing our to-do list.

Free Form

This method gives you free reign for organizing your to-do list any way you see fit. All you have to do is drag and drop until everything is in the order you prefer.

High Impact-Minimal Effort

This is the prioritization method of choice or Simpleology and is based off their principle of High-Impact Minimal Effort.

For each to-do list you're going to grade their impact on a scale of  1 to 10, 10 being the highest impact. Next, you're going to grade its ease on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 meaning that it's extremely easy to do.

After you finish assigning the Impact and Ease of each target, you simply hit the sort button and the system spits out a HI-ME score for each item on your to-do list. The higher the HI-ME score the better.

Big Rock/Little Rock

In this method, you grade the difficulty of each task on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 meaning that the task is extremely difficult. After you finish sorting the list, you can order it by the most to least difficult, or vice-versa.

This means you can approach your to-do list in one of two ways: You can tackle the hard things first and save the easy stuff for later. Or you can do the easy stuff first, and handle the hard stuff later. The choice is up to you.

Daily Targets

After everything is said and done, we finally get to our list of "Daily Targets". What we have here is a well-organized list of things to do that will move you life and your business forward by focusing only on the things that matter and ignoring everything else.

The Dojo

If it seems like there's a lot going on, you'd be correct. The good news is that you don't have to use every single module coming out of the gate. The system itself has a built-in training system that will take you through each module step-by-step until you've mastered every aspect of the system and become a "productivity beast". Here is the progression as follows:

White Belt

Your white belt training will be the HARDEST belt out of all of the belts, and I'm speaking from personal experience. Your goal here is to get comfortable with using the "Morning Braindump" and the "Decide" step. These two modules alone will skyrocket your productivity so be sure to take this training seriously because this will lay the foundation for everything that's to follow.

Yellow Belt

At this stage, we add in the "Stay Focused" module to Start My Day. Now, we're not just getting things done. We know what we're going after and each day we can review each major focus and brainstorm ideas of what can be done to bring us closer to attaining it.

Orange Belt

Basic Kankyo Kaizen is a coin termed by W.E. Demings which means "continuous improvement". In this module, we will be going over your environment and learn different "hacks" you can immediately implement to optimize your surroundings for maximum productivity.

Amber Belt

In this training, we add the prioritize module to Start My Day and begin to organize our tasks before we start working on them.

Purple Belt

In this training, we add the "Observe and Change" Module to Start My Day and begin to pay attention to our time, money, or energy on a daily basis.

Blue Belt

In this stage, you will learn how to use text messages and emails to send ideas to your Dream Catcher.

Green Belt

In this training, you will learn all about how lists work in Simpleology.

Brown Belt

Engines add a new layer of functionality to your dream catcher by automatically assigning certain dream catcher items to a specific list based on what was typed. Let me give you an example.

Let's say that you had a list on Simpleology for book titles and one day, someone recommended a book you ought to read.

You can create an engine in Simpleology such that whenever you type "book" followed by the title of the book, the system will automatically add the title to your "book" list.

Red Belt

In the Red Belt training, we exercise our imagination in regards to hitting our goal.

Black Belt

This is the final belt of Simpleology, and in some ways, they saved the best for last. At this level, you learn how to use the Delegation Station, create Simpleology, and coordinate your efforts with other people to get even more done in less time.

Simpleology Projects

Simpleology Projects are based on the kanban or "card wall" concept used among practitioners of Agile methodologies. They are extremely useful and can be adapted to any type of project, big or small. You will learn more about how to use this tool in the Black Belt training.

Delegation Station

This is where you accept tasks that are delegated to you as well as delegate tasks to other people. In order for other people to receive them, they must have a Simpleology account as well.

Simpleology Systems

Simpleology Systems are collections of tasks that are automatically delegated at the frequency that you decide. This ensures that the things that you need to get done are getting done without you having to think about it.

Here's an example of what a Simpleology System looks like:

Every Simpleology system is defined by their what (what the system does), their why (why the system exists), when the system runs, who created it, when it starts and finally, the actual tasks.

Once all of these components are in place, you have yourself a fully functional system that is not only effective, but has "sticking power".

SIMPLEOLOGY CONCLUSION

Write a brief conclusion and summary of the points in the review here. Keep in mind that many readers are just skimming, so it's good to repeat the most important points in this section. This is also where you can make a strong and clear recommendation of the product.
